The Madras High Court Bench here on Tuesday dismissed an anticipatory bail application filed by former Tiruchi Mayor Emily Richard (69) and her daughter Pearlin Vincent (45) in a case registered against them by City Crime Branch police on a charge of cheating a real estate businessman to the tune of Rs 43.80 lakh.

Justice P.N. Prakash rejected their joint application after recording the submission of the police that there were prima facie materials to proceed against the petitioners.

The judge also took note of the claim made by N. Satish Babu, counsel for the complainant, V.M. Ravichandran, that the accused might go abroad if they were granted advance bail.
