Hajj pilgrims take part in vaccination camp

Muslims going on Hajj pilgrimage were administered vaccination here on Wednesday.

The Madurai Hajj Service Society and the Health Department conducted a camp at the office of Deputy Director of Health Services in Viswanathapuram. The pilgrims were also inoculated against meningitis. Totally, 215 Hajj pilgrims, including 95 women, attended the camp and they will be leaving for Mecca and Madina next month.

S. Senthilkumar, Deputy Director of Health Services, Madurai district, inaugurated the vaccination exercise in the presence of Hajj Service Society president Raja Hassan and secretary S. Jahangeer.

According to Mr. Jahangeer, pilgrims from Madurai, Virudhunagar and Sivaganga districts were vaccinated and the first batch would leave for the 40-day pilgrimage in the middle of September. Representatives from the State Hajj Committee oversaw the vaccination exercise.
