To check crime and keep criminals at bay, Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) administration has installed high-tech cameras with spotlights at vital points on the premises.
According to sources, following Tamil Nadu government order, old cameras have been replaced with new ones with zooming and rotating facilities. Against the backdrop of a series of untoward incidents, the cameras had been installed. Thirty-two cameras were installed about three years ago. The new cameras have been set up at gynaecology ward, near Dean’s office, kitchen and parking lot which is prone to vehicle theft, among other places.
A three-day-old baby boy was stolen from the post-natal ward at the GRH last year, and the police have not secured the woman who was involved in the crime owing to the low quality of images captured by the old cameras installed at the ward three years ago. High-quality dome cameras will be installed near the Trauma Care Centre near Anna bus stand soon.
