Twenty-two headmasters of Government High and Higher Secondary Schools in the district and three more from corporation schools attended a three-day capacity building training programme conducted under the United Kingdom-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) at Othakadai Girls Higher Secondary School campus here between Wednesday and Friday.
According to A. Shankar, Project Director, Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), select headmasters from every district in the State were made to undergo training at Chennai for five days in the month of October and for two more days in Coimbatore in December. These headmasters had, in turn, been deputed to train others in the district in different spells.
The training programme, conducted simultaneously in all districts across the State, aims to cover a total of 750 headmasters, including 25 in Madurai, in the first spell. It focuses on enhancing the leadership skills of the headmasters and making them believe that the quality of a school depends mainly upon the quality of teaching and not other supplementary requirements.
