Four struck dead by lightning

Four persons, including a college student, were killed in lightning strikes across the district on Sunday.

According to sources, Chinnadurai (22), studying first year MBA at Kalasalingam University, and five others were standing near a pumpset at Kunnur K Pudur near Srivilliputhur when lightning struck.

The student was killed on the spot.

Thirunavukarasu, 24, a site engineer at Kalasalingam University, suffered a shock and was shifted to a local hospital while others escaped.

In another incident at Thiruvannamalai near Srivilliputhur, Ramakrishnan (34), a farm labourer, was at his home along with his wife when lightning struck and he died on the spot.

Meanwhile, Shankar (45) of Reddiapatti near Sivakasi, took shelter under an old building when the roof caved in killing him on the spot.

In yet another accident, Sankar (47), a farm labourer of Reddipatti near Sivakasi, was killed when lightning struck on Sunday evening, the sources said.
