Five of the seven students on hunger strike demanding the clamping of total prohibition in the State were whisked away by the police after midnight from their protest venue in front of the Government Law College here.

But they continued their fast for the fourth day at the Government Rajaji Hospital where they were forcibly admitted, said K. Anand, father of the law student, A. Nandhini, who initiated the fast on Monday.
Two other students, Joe Britto and A. Manikandan of Loyola College, Chennai, had left for Chennai to continue their protest, he added.
Besides Nandhini, the police detained S. Vijikumar, Vinod Kumar, Maranadu Karuppasamy, and Yuvarajan.
The police said that the students were detained under Section 151 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The students refused to take medical treatment and continued their fast at the hospital.
"They have given in writing that they do not need any treatment," the police said.
The police claimed that two protestors, Vinod Kumar and Yuvarajan, consented to being administered intravenous fluids at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the police picked up five youth who staged a protest demanding the release of the arrested students.
