A 61-year-old financier was found murdered outside his residence on Thursday morning.
S. Bose Rajan was living alone in his Tamil Nadu Housing Board Colony home in Villapuram.
The police suspect a dispute over a financial transaction led to the murder.
The victim was discovered sprawled on his doorstep with multiple stab wounds on his body at around 8.30 a.m., said P. Purushotaman, Tirupparankundram Deputy Superintendent of Police.
The SUV he drove was parked at Solaiazhagupuram.
The police suspect that the victim was driven home by persons known to him and that an altercation had ensued.
"His accounts book was found at the scene of the crime. An altercation over money would have led to the murder," the DSP said.
Call records being checked
The police are going through the accounts book and are checking the call records of his mobile phone.
A sniffer dog was deployed at the scene. Slippers were recovered from the site.
Neighbours reported seeing nothing unusual that morning, the DSP said.
The Avaniyapuram police are investigating.
