Directs response team to instruct websites to remove links to the deadly game

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court here on Monday, while taking up the suo motu petition initiated in the wake of the ‘Blue Whale suicides’ in the State, directed that action be taken to curb the spread of the game and measures be taken to put an end to the menace.

The Division Bench comprising Justices K.K. Sasidharan and G.R. Swaminathan directed the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team to take necessary inputs and ask websites to remove links of the deadly game.

The High Court also directed the Director General of Police and the Commissioner of Police, Cyber Cell, CBCID, to give the requisite notice.

The Director of School Education and Collegiate Education was told to offer suggestions and counselling to the students on the dangers of the game. The Principal Secretary, Home Department was directed to issue notice to the curators those who provide links to the deadly game that they will be dealt with seriouslyservice providers. The Bench impleaded the Director, IIT Madras, the State Mental Health Authority, Chennai and the Director, Sneha Suicide Prevention Centre, as respondents in the petition and offer suggestions to deal with the situation.

Advocate R.P.S Palanivel Rajan was made Amicus Curaie to assist in hearing the case.

S.Aravind, IPS, Superintendent, Special Division CID, Chennai and Lavanya Additional Superintendent of Police CBCID, Chennai to be present for the next hearing.
