Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa on Sunday said the Corporation would take stern action against those found guilty behind issuance of ‘death certificates’ in the name of Madurai South MLA R. Annadurai and Minister Sellur K. Raju through the online registration facility.

Though the Corporation was quick to lodge a complaint with the Cyber Crime police, who are investigating into the complaint lodged by the City Health Officer, CPI(M) MLA Mr. Annadurai has demanded a thorough probe by the police. When miscreants could tamper with elected representatives through the online facility, the fate of common man could be gauged. He submitted a petition to the Commissioner of Police on Sunday in this connection.

A senior officer in the Corporation said the police were in the process of collecting inputs about the functioning of the online registration of birth and death certificates.

The employees in charge of the computer operations and issuance of certificates to the applicants would be examined.

The digital signature figuring in the ‘death certificates’ was said to be fake, though the details were correct, he added.

Until the loopholes were set right, the online issuance of birth and death certificates would be temporarily suspended, an official said and added only on September 10 the Mayor had launched the facility.
