Enumeration for housing scheme

Enumeration of beneficiaries under the Kalaignar Housing scheme will begin in Virudhunagar district on March 29.

In a statement, the Collector, Sigy Thomas Vaidhyan, said that three-member teams comprising the village administrative officer, makkal nala paniyalar and the panchayat assistant, will carry out the enumeration. The work would be supervised by the officials in the Revenue Department and Department of Rural Development.

The door numbersas per May 2009 voter list would be taken as the identification number. The team would look for ration card, electricity connection card, property tax number and documents like patta and sale deed, of the land.

The beneficiary family should live in the hut during enumeration. The inmates, who were away, when the team visited their locality, should inform the team on their return before the enumeration task or the verification work is completed.

In the second stage, all the huts would be photographed, with the beneficiaries standing in front of them, and other documents would be collected from them, the Collector said. The scheme envisaged to convert all the huts with thatched roofs, immaterial of the nature of building materials used for the walls.

Every converted house would be of 200 square feet. The Government would give Rs. 60,000 grant for it. The beneficiary or their agents could take up the construction work, as done under the Indira Awas Yojana.

The huts of tenants, those used for commercial purpose and those used as shelter for animals, and partly thatched huts that have asbestos, tiles or tin roof for remaining portion would not be considered for conversion under the scheme, the Collector said.None of the family members should own a permanent housing building elsewhere. No full time or part-time employee in Government departments, local bodies and Government undertaking agencies and pensioners of these agencies or the huts belonging to their spouses would qualify for the scheme. Similar is the case of the elected representatives and their spouses, the Collector said.

The exercise would begin the same day in Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga districts also, said the Collector (in-charge), K. Balasubramanian (Ramanathapuram) and the Collector, Mahesan Kasirajan (Sivaganga).
