Over 40 differently abled students from Akash School giggled and laughed as members of Kalaikoodam, a group of entertainers, mimicked popular actors and sang songs during the ‘Stand up comedy night’ at M.S. Chellamuthu Trust here on Friday.

The event was organised by Madurai City Round Table-99 and Ladies Circle India- 60 in association with M.S. Chellamuthu Trust as part of the Round Table India Week.

Mukundhan Rajaram, a tabler, said that members regularly worked towards uplifting marginalised sections of the society by providing education and infrastructure. This is part of their ‘Freedom through education’ programme.

Immanuel Devavaram, the chairman of Madurai City Round Table-99, said that the primary aim of the event was to ensure that the students had a smile on their face.

“Many of them are much older and usually crave company as their families rarely visit them. They miss interacting with people who are able to retain engaging conversation,” said Dr. Vikram, another tabler.

Mr. Immanuel Devavaram said that the students there would speak about the event for many days to come. “They will recount this event for at least 10-15 days. That is great.” he said.

P. Pravin Kumar and P. Vijay, entertainers, performed for the audience. Their Managing Director Palse Tharmam said that the group was growing and looking forward to doing more such shows.
