Demanding monthly assistance, a group of differently-abled persons submitted a petition to Collector R. Selvaraj on Monday after their repeated appeals to officials failed to evoke any response.
One of the petitioners A. Meeran said they, “who had been certified as 80 per cent physically challenged by competent authorities” had sent several petitions to the officials for the past several months seeking assistance. However, the officials rejected their applications citing some reasons or other. The Collector should intervene and ensure the issuance of assistance to them.
Another group from Palayamkottai submitted a petition to the Collector demanding removal of illegal constructions around the Sivan Kovil tank in Palayamkottai. They said the encroachment eviction drive was commenced recently after Mayor Vijila Sathyananth formally started it. Though the Corporation administration sent notices on October 26 to encroachers asking them to vacate within three days, no action had been taken so far to evict them due to interference.
A group of Hindu Munnani activists submitted a petition to the Collector urging the administration to give up its plan to construct a government building on the land adjacent to Sri Aayiraththamman Temple in Palayamkottai where ‘soorasamhaaram’ was being organised for the past several decades.
