January 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - MADURAI:

The Madurai Corporation has decided to act tough on cinema theatres, marriage halls, private hospitals and other public places where mosquito breeding sources are found during dengue control inspections.

As a first step, the civic authorities have slapped a total fine Rs 50,000 on different establishments on the basis of inspection reports submitted by teams led by assistant commissioners.

“The building owners have to take cleanliness and sanitation measures since people throng marriage halls, cinema theatres and schools in large numbers. Residential areas and hospitals too will have to be free of mosquito breeding,” Commissioner C. Kathiravan said on Tuesday.

According to officials, fine was imposed on buildings in all the four zones. In Zone 1, the total fine was Rs 30,000, while in Zone 2 it was Rs 10, 000.

Similarly, Rs 5,000 each was imposed in Zone 3 and Zone 4. The special teams formed to identify mosquito breeding sources are conducting inspections across the city.
