The Madras High Court Bench here on Wednesday directed the police and transport officials in the city to crack down on auto rickshaw drivers who charge more than the rates prescribed by the State government and overload the vehicles beyond the permitted capacity of three passengers.
A Division Bench of Justices S. Manikumar and G. Chockalingam passed the order on a public interest litigation petition. It said the officials should take stern action against the violators. The petitioner’s counsel, R. Alagumani, had accused share auto rickshaws to be the biggest violators of permit conditions.
