CPI(M) demands speedy completion of bridge work

November 20, 2014 10:04 am | Updated 10:04 am IST - MADURAI:

The rail overbridge connecting TVS Nagar and Palanganatham intersection should be completed at the earliest, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded.

According to a press release issued here on Tuesday, the party members, at a meeting held by Jaihindpuram unit, detailed the struggle faced by the commuters on the stretch every day. At a time when it was raining, the problems only get aggravated. Though the project should have been completed a year ago as per the terms, the delay had not been addressed by the officials, they said.

The meeting pressed for desilting of Muthupatti Veeramudayan tank and boat ride facility for the public. By making the tank a tourist spot, the administration could earn revenue with which maintenance expenditure could be met. Similarly, a path around the tank for walkers could also be established, it said. There had been a number of thefts reported in and around Jaihindpuram in the recent times. Police should step up vigil and establish more pickets in the thickly populated locality, the members said.

Considering the population of the locality, the district administration should examine the possibilities of operating more bus services between Jaihindpuram and the city peripheries, the meeting resolved.

District secretary Vickraman addressed the members. A.P. Sivaraman presided, the release added.
