In an apparent reference to the ongoing spat between senior party functionaries, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Friday urged the functionaries and cadre of the AIADMK (Amma) to be tolerant and adjust with each other, while inaugurating the birth centenary celebration of late Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran here on Friday. He quoted MGR and late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to appeal to the cadre to talk less and work more.

Narrating an Akbar and Birbal fable, Mr. Palaniswami urged the party cadre to control their tongue and use it only to utter only good things. The fable, he stressed, showed how tongue was both the best and worst tool in the world, depending on what one chose to speak.

The CM made a few announcements for Madurai district, which included the drinking water project that will bring water from the Lower Camp through a 156-kilometre-long pipeline to benefit roughly 17 lakh people.

Significantly, he named the integrated bus stand in Mattuthavani in Madurai after MGR and announced the commencement of work or inauguration of projects worth ₹60.33 crore in the district. It included the Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEmONC) Centre at Government Rajaji Hospital.

Earlier, speaking at the function, Cooperation Minister ‘Sellur’ K. Raju said safeguarding the party was more important than safeguarding the government and urged the party cadre to be united and defeat those trying to destroy the AIADMK.

Revenue Minister R.B. Udhayakumar showered praises on Mr. Palaniswami for organising MGR’s birth centenary celebration as a government function in a grand manner.

Assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal and Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha M. Thambidurai recollected the legacy of MGR and his connection with Madurai in their speeches. Almost all the Tamil Nadu Ministers, barring Finance Minister D. Jayakumar, and many MPs and MLAs took part in the function.
