A construction worker was hacked to death at Manakavalanpillai Nagar in Palayamkottai on Wednesday night.

Police said construction worker S. Raja alias Rajalingam (24) of Manakavalanpillai Nagar in Palayamkottai was chased by an armed gang on Wednesday night and hacked to death even as he was speaking with his friends at Kamarajar Street.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli City, Pradip Kumar and senior police officials visited the spot and three special teams were formed immediately to nab the culprits.

Prior enmity

During investigation, police found that Rajalingam had prior enmity with another group from the same area and hence it is suspected that the murder could be the handiwork of the gang. Palayamkottai police have registered a case.
