Collector unveils portrait of Kattabomman

Unveiling the portrait of freedom fighter Veerapandia Kattabomman, Collector G. Prakash said that he sacrificed his life for the people.

Speaking at a function organised by the district administration at Panchalakurichi as part of the Veerapandia Kattabomman festival on Friday evening, Mr. Prakash said the State government had built a memorial fort at Panchalakurichi in Tuticorin District in recognition of his gallant deeds during the freedom movement.

The people of next generation would be aware of his contributions to the nation, he said while referring to the significance of the memorial fort.

Tourist spots

It was also made one of the important tourist destinations, which attracts a large number of people every year. S.R. Jayadurai, Member of Parliament (Tuticorin), J. Ravichandran, RDO, Kovilpatti, M. Ammayappan, Panchayat Assistant, Vijayakumar, Tourism Officer, Latha Karunanidhi, Panchayat President, Panchalakurichi and Assistant Public Relation Officers, Bala Sakthidasan and P. Gandhi were present on the occasion.
