Collector pledges to donate organs

Participating in a rally organised here on Thursday to create awareness of organ donation, Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao took the lead and pledged to donate his organs.

Highlighting that Tamil Nadu was already leading the country in cadaveric transplants, Mr. Rao said that even higher number of lives could be saved if more people became aware of the importance of donating their organs. Later, he filled the form pledging his organs for donation and submitted it to authorities of Government Rajaji Hospital.

The rally was organised as part of a week-long programmes to increase awareness among the public of organ donations. Officials said that various competitions on the theme of organ donation had been arranged for college and school students as part of the initiative.

M.R. Vairamuthu Raju, Dean of GRH, S.C. Ganesh Prabhu, Director of Department of Anaesthesiology, GRH, senior doctors from the hospital, Red Cross members and college students participated in the rally.
