Volunteers of Hindu Makkal Katchi took out a procession carrying the idols of Lord Ganesha as part of Vinayaka Chathurthi celebrations here on Friday.

Amid tight police bandobust, the procession started from Vilakuthoon. The procession passed through the Masi streets and all the 15 idols were immersed at the allotted spots, which included river Vaigai. In rural areas, the police said that 25 idols were taken out in procession by Hindu organisations in Melur and another 18 idols in Ezhumalai. There were no untoward incidents.


Vinayaka idols were taken out in procession for immersion in different part of Paramakudi on Friday. The processions converged at the Vaigai river for immersion.

There was no report of untoward incidents in the Vinayaka idols procession.

Ten idols, installed at different places of Rameswaram, were immersed in sea.

Immersion ceremony of idols kept in Ramanathapuram will be held on Saturday.
