The 16th edition of ‘Chamber Trade Fair 2013,’ organised by Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will be held at Krishnan Kovil Ground at Iyer Bungalow from December 20 to January 2.
In a press meet on Monday, N. Jegatheesan, chamber president, said that 200 stalls will be put up.
“Our slogan for this year’s fair is ‘Tourism is our culture’. We have created a replica of the Egyptian pyramid at a cost of Rs. 30 lakh. We will also organise a 3D show on Egyptian culture in the fair,” he said. “Manufacturers and dealers of household items, office equipment, automobile accessories, building materials, food items, computers, industrial tools, and fitness equipment will exhibit their products with concessions,” he said.
Besides, the railways will display and operate working models of trains and explain the various innovations introduced by them. “Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited will exhibit new products and schemes. The District Industries Centre and banks will provide information about their services,” Mr. Jegatheesan said.
Cultural programmes will be conducted at the fair to entertain the visitors. Children’s park and food courts will also be there. Daily prizes and mega bumper prizes will be given to visitors based on a lucky draw. The entry ticket costs Rs. 20 and free admission for children aged below five.
Trade Centre
Speaking at the press meet S. Rethinavelu, chairman of Tamilnadu Chamber Foundation, said that a permanent trade and convention centre would be constructed in Madurai next year. “We are in the process of finalising the land for establishing the centre. To promote tourism, we will have a permanent exhibition containing miniature models of all the world wonders. The pyramid that has been erected in this year’s exhibition is a prelude to the project”, he said.
Besides, the trade and convention centre will also have a permanent display of the culture of ancient Madurai. “We have approached Karumuttu T. Kannan, Chairman of the board of trustees of Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple to prepare a 3D DVD reflecting the highlights of the temple. We will also exhibit materials on ancient food habits, models of streets during Pandya rule and on ancient dance forms. The display will be educative for students,” he said.
A.S.V.A. Mathavan and P. Surendran, vice-presidents of the fair, J. Rajmoham, Chamber secretary, and S. Sridhar, co-ordinator of the fair, were present.
