After a hot chase, two robbers who had snatched away a two sovereign gold chain from a woman were caught and the property was recovered here on Wednesday.
The police said that Meena (25) of Ellis Nagar, working as a tutor in a private nursing school in the city, was walking along the Kennet Lane towards Periyar bus stand, when two persons snatched her gold chain. She raised an alarm and a policeman Rajagopal of S.S. Colony police station gave a hot chase along with some pedestrians in the locality.
Meanwhile, he alerted the personnel at the station to come to the spot. Within a few minutes, a posse of men arrived and caught the robbers.
They were identified as Nagaraj (25) son of Alagumalai of Kamarajapuram and Saravanan (23) son of Arumugam of Shoe Maker Street Madhichiyam. A case of robbery was registered against the duo and they were produced before a court.
Yet another instance
In another case, a 70-year-old woman Rajalakshmi of LIG Colony near KK Nagar was robbed of her gold chain weighing about six sovereigns by two motorcycle-borne robbers on Tuesday evening. It is said that the two youths came near the aged woman under the guise of enquiring an address and snatched away the gold chain. Anna Nagar police are investigating.
It is revealed that the youths looked like North Indians and spoke in chaste Tamil. It may be noted two women had lost their chain near P and T Nagar and near Viswanathapuram a fortnight ago to motor-borne robbers who had similar features. Further investigation is on.
