Over 2,500 cases settled in National Lok Adalats

District courts and subordinate judicial courts in the two districts settled 2,534 cases and awarded settlements for ₹ 5.02 crore to litigants at the National Lok Adalat held on Saturday.

In Ramanathapuram, nine benches – four benches at the district court in the district headquarters and five in taluk headquarters took up 1,185 compoundable criminal cases, motor accident claim original petitions, bank recovery and family dispute cases for settlement and disposed of 694 cases in the adalat, organised by the District Legal Services Authority.

Chief Judicial Magistrate T.V. Anil Kumar, who is the secretary of the legal services authority, inaugurated the adalat and chaired a bench at the district court here. The other benches were chaired by Additional District and Sessions Court Judge D. Lingeswaran, Sub Judge M. Preetha, District Munsiff K.S. Rajesh Kumar and Judicial Magistrate II (training) Radhakrishnan.

The benches awarded total compensation of ₹2.10 crore to litigants, including ₹ 30 lakh to the family of conductor of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation who died in a road accident. Advocates O. Ushadevi, A. Nambunayagam, R. Ajay Kumar, M. Rajeswari, S. Pranavanathan, V.S. Rajesh Kannan and B. Ravikumar served as advocate members in the benches.

In Sivaganga, the adalat was inaugurated by Principal District Judge K.V. Senthurpandiyan, who is the chairman of District Legal Services Authority. Twelve benches — six benches at the district court and six benches at the taluk headquarters in Karaikudi, Devakottai, Manamadurai, Tirupattur and Ilayangudi took up total number of 3,379 cases and settled 1,840 cases. The benches awarded settlements for ₹2.92 crore to the litigants.

The other benches in the district court were chaired by Additional District Judge V.V. Thaniarasu, Chief Judicial Magistrate M.J. Radhika, Sub-Judges T.P. Vadivelu and R. Selvakumar, District Munsiff N. Gnanasambandam and Judicial Magistrate R. Lalitha Rani. The settled cases included a large number of criminal cases, cheque bounces cases, bank recovery cases, motor accident claim cases and family disputes.

Dindigul

A total of 2,651 cases were settled involving compensation and fine to the tune of ₹4.43 crore were cleared.

A total of 72 bank cases and 2,579 court pending cases were cleared.

Principal District-cum Sessions Judge K. Murali Shankar and District Legal Services Authority Secretary C. Vijayakumar and other judges conducted the adalat.

Theni

A total of 89 cases — 47 bank disputes and 42 court pending cases — were settled and compensation disposed of to the tune of ₹85.45 lakh by the Theni, Periyakulam, Uthamapalayam, Bodinayakanur and Andipatti taluk-level legal services committees. Principal District Judge S. Senthil Kumaresan, Principal District Judge (Rtd) M.M. Krishnan and DLSA Secretary K Jeyaraj conducted the camp.
