City hotels are gearing up to welcome Yuletide with a special menu, fests for children and a special Christmas cake.
The Gateway at Pasumalai held its cake mixing ceremony a few days back. Guests and chefs joined in the traditional ceremony which involved the mixing of dry fruits, nuts, liquor and various other ingredients used to make the special Christmas cake. A. Ramesh, Restaurant Manager, said over 20 kilograms of dry fruits and nuts were used.
“The cakes will be prepared a couple of days before Christmas. We have planned to have some special varieties on the menu from December 22 and host a dinner on Christmas Eve,” he said.
Similarly, Fortune Pandiyan Hotel hosted a cake mixing ceremony with over 165 kg of ingredients, including walnut, cashew, date, apricot and pistachio. Christmas carols were sung during the ceremony.
“We will let the mixture ferment for about 45 days and then prepare Christmas cakes. We have been hosting this ceremony for the last 50 years and we all look forward to it every year,” said Ravi Sundar, Food and Beverages Manager. The hotel has planned to host a special children’s carnival in the presence of Santa Claus. “While these events will start a couple of days before Christmas, there will be a special dinner and celebrations on Christmas eve as well,” Mr. Ravi Sundar said.
Chefs at Hotel Germanus said they too had planned to host a cake mixing ceremony.
