Corporation officials on Tuesday ordered “stop work” at the site of a commercial building under construction in Ellis Nagar following large-scale violation of the approved plan.

The officials, led by Chief Town Planning Officer M. Rakkappan, visited the multi-storey building site and instructed the men working there to move out. The owner of the building had got building plan approval to construct a building with basement and four floors for 6,600 square feet on the 75-feet-road.

However, the building, for which the physical structure for three floors had been completed, was measuring around 16,800 square feet, Mr. Rakkappan said.

Following instructions from Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa and Commissioner R. Nanthagopal, the officials put up an iron mesh blocking the entrance to prevent further construction work.
