More than a day after the incident, the 13-year-old boy named R. Jayasurya, who fell into the Vaigai river off Alwarpuram here on Thursday afternoon, was yet to be traced.

The boy, a native of Palani in Dindigul district, reportedly went to witness the water flow in the river along with another teenager when he had come to Goripalayam along with his family to attend a function at a relative’s house.

Police sources said that the boy had gone to the riverside near the spot below Albert Victor Bridge where Lord Kallazhagar enters Vaigai and accidentally tripped and fell into the gushing water.

Though the Fire and Rescue Services personnel and the police department began the rescue operations soon after the incident, the boy could not be traced until.

The boy’s family attempted to stage a protest at the Goripalayam junction on Friday night alleging inefficiency in the rescue operations. However, they were swiftly evacuated from the place by the police on assurance that the boy would be traced by Saturday.
