ASER study in two districts

An annual study of the standard of education in schools in Dindigul and Madurai districts will be undertaken soon.

The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER), facilitated by Pratham, a non-governmental organisation, will study the learning outcome in children in the age group of 6 to 14 years.

The annual study is being conducted in the country since 2005. Volunteers from various non-governmental organisations will visit houses and schools in at least 60 villages in the two districts, and test the ability of the children in reading Tamil and English and simple arithmetic, Henri Tiphagne, executive director of People’s Watch and one of the coordinators of the ASER, said here on Saturday.
