Advocates affiliated to various associations in the district court began an indefinite boycott from Wednesday condemning the arrest of eight lawyers in three criminal cases.
A demonstration was also staged in front of the district court, condemning the police for the arrest.
False casesMadurai Bar Association secretary A.K. Ramasamy said that the cases against the eight advocates were “false” and were registered by the Vilakuthoon and Tallakulam police with “ulterior motive.”
One advocate has been detained by Tallakulam police in a murder case and the rest by Vilakuthoon police in two cases of criminal intimidation.
“The judicial magistrate and sessions courts also declined grant of bail and anticipatory bail to the advocates saying that a judge in the Madras High Court Bench here is monitoring the cases. This is condemnable,” he said. The persons arrested along with the advocates were granted bail and anticipatory bail, he claimed.
The protesters also demanded that the police should not enter the court premises.
