5,000 police personnel to be deployed in Ramanathapuram district
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) T.K. Rajendran on Saturday discussed with senior police officials the security arrangements for the Thevar Jayanthi on October 30.
The ADGP held discussions with Inspector General (IG) of Police (South zone) Abhay Kumar Singh, six Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) and five Superintendents of Police (SPs) at the Police Recruit School in Kamudhi in the morning.
“It was a general discussion on bandobust arrangement,” Ramanathapuram SP N.M. Mylvahanan said. A total of 5,000 police personnel would be deployed at various places in the district on October 28, he told The Hindu.
As the deployment of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) during the Immanuel Sekaran death anniversary on September 11 was very helpful to the police, it had been proposed to deploy it for the Thevar Jayanthi too.
The UAV, developed by the Department of Aerospace Engineering’s Division of Avionics, Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), Anna University, could fly up to a height of 300 feet to 1,500 ft continuously for about 40 minutes. It could cover a radius of five to seven kilometres, and its high resolution camera could zoom 20 times and record all the events.
DIGs M.C. Sarangan (Chennai), A. Amalraj (Tiruchi), M.T. Ganesamoorthy (Coimbatore) Sumit Sharan (Tirunelveli), Anand Kumar Somani (Madurai) and K. Periaiah (Chennai), and SPs Ashwin M. Kotnis (Sivaganga), V. Balakrishnan (Madurai), S. Maheswaran (Virudhunagar) and S.V. Karuppasamy (STF) apart from the Ramanathapuram SP attended the meeting.
Later in the evening, Mr.Rajendran discussed the bandobust arrangements to be made in all southern districts with officers in Madurai.
IGP (South zone) Abhay Kumar Singh, Madurai Commissioner of Police Sanjay Mathur, DIGs Anand Kumar Somani (Madurai Range), Arivuselvam (Dindigul range), and Madurai Superintendent of Police V. Balakrishnan participated in the meeting.
