Veteran Kollywood actor R. Senthil, on Tuesday lodged a formal complaint with Madurai City police seeking action against those spreading rumours on the social media that the actor is dead.

In a petition handed over to Commissioner of Police, Shailesh Kumar Yadav, Mr. Senthil, who paired with actor Goundamani in many a hit film, said the rumour about his death was spread through WhatsApp a few days back.

After a lull for a few days, the rumour resurfaced on WhatsApp, he said.

Since he got a flurry of phone calls from his anxious fans, friends and relatives, he sought to dispel the rumours through the media.

Action sought

Mr. Senthil, who had campaigned for the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in the recently-concluded general election to the Assembly, said he suspected that people from a rival party could be behind the rumours and sought action against the rumour mongers.
