Action sought against AIADMK man

The Dalit Liberation Movement here has demanded legal action against an AIADMK functionary in Dindigul district, who allegedly abused a 30-year-old man belonging to Arunthathiyar community.

According to S. Karuppiah, DLM State joint general secretary, R. Packiaraj (30) was allegedly attacked by a group led by Siva of Palayam village in Gujiliamparai police station limits in Dindigul district a month ago. When Packiaraj drank water from a public thaneer pandal put up by AIADMK cadre in the hamlet, Siva took objection and abused Packiaraj’s caste.

Altercation

An altercation led to an exchange of blows as Siva and his accomplices roughed him up leading to hospitalisation.

Though the police recorded Packiaraj's statement and registered cases under IPC Sections 147, 148, 294, 323, 324, 354 read with 3 (1) (r) (s) SC/ST Prevention of Corruption Act, the accused had not been arrested. However, the police registered a case against Packiaraj, based on a complaint from Siva. Packiaraj obtained an anticipatory bail.
