D. Sasikala, a student of Lord Venkateswara Matriculation Higher Secondary School in T. Kallupatti, who bagged State first rank along with 40 other students from across the State, said that while she expected to do well, the State rank was a pleasant surprise.

“My teachers motivated me to put my best foot forward and I studied with focus right from the start,” the soft-spoken girl said. Sasikala scored 499 marks with centums in Maths, Science, Social Science and Tamil. Her father U. Devendran, who works in a rice mill, said that while Sasikala was always a bright student, they motivated her to aim higher in the SSLC examinations.

Her school Principal G. Chandra said that while Sasikala excelled in studies, she was also a good artist. “I love painting and it was one of my stress relievers during my exam preparations,” the topper said.

Speaking about her future plans, Sasikala said that she plans to pursue the Maths-Biology stream and become a doctor.
