: Braving intermittent drizzle that kept the region damp during the whole day on Saturday and also the previous night, students continued their protest vigil demanding jallikkattu in several parts of Thanjavur and Tiruvarur districts.

Pressing ahead with the continuing protests in front of the Head Post Office here, students erected a makeshift tent to shield themselves from the rain while scores of women college students pulled out their umbrellas to hold a vocal protest near the venue.

A lot of parents and relatives of the students too lent their support to the students stir during the day.

A retired policeman Sivachidambaram (63) and seven other students commenced a protest fast demanding jallikkattu near the venue of the students' protest.

Vehicular traffic had to be diverted to skip the Head Post Office route due to the elongating agitation.

In Pattukkottai, with the protests entering the fifth day, sections of the striking students themselves prepared food for all the protesting students in a nearby marriage hall and served food for all in the venue — the Head Post Office. Scores of students continued their protests near the Peravurani and Papanasam bus stands over the same cause.

In Kumbakonam, though rains arrived since Friday evening, the students continued their vigil on the Ayyee Kulam Road as many held umbrellas to shield them from the showers.

Students of the Sastra University, Kumbakonam Campus, took out a rally from their institution to the protest venue to express their solidarity with the other students.

Protesters braved the rain in several parts to continue the agitation in Nagapattinam district too.
