660 kg of plastic carry bags seized

The city Corporation has seized 660 kg of plastic carry bags below 50-micronthickness and imposed Rs. 35,900 fine on 36 shops for using it.

The penal action was initiated after the Corporation imposed a ban on usage of carry bags below 50-micron thickness around Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple with effect from January 1, 2017. The bags have been banned on Chithirai, Aavani Moola, Masi, Marret and Veli streets.

Directed by Corporation Commissioner Sandeep Nanduri, a team of officials raided the shops and seized 660 kg of plastic carry bags.

People can lodge complaints against violators of the ban on plastic bags around the temple by calling the corporation Central office on 2525252; sending messages with photographs over the Corporation WhatsApp no. 74491-04104 and over its Facebook page maduraicorporationfacebook. People giving genuine tip off would be rewarded with Rs. 500.
