45-day Chithirai expo concludes

The 45-day annual Chithirai exhibition concluded at the Tamkum grounds here on Sunday. Various public sector undertakings, government departments and others had displayed their products during the exhibition.

According to an official spokesman, the Reserve Bank of India, for the first time, had participated in the government exhibition.

The RBI officials not only created an awareness of the forged currency menace, but also showcased the various functioning aspects of their departments such as foreign exchange, rural planning and credit, banking ombudsman, national clearing cell and non-banking supervision to the visiting public.

The RBI had received soiled currencies from public and in exchange issued currencies to the tune of Rs.28 lakh.

Apart from this, they had also issued coins valued at Rs.60 lakh and sold Anna centenary coins and Dr. Baba centenary coins to the public, the spokesman added.
