A total of 288 constables (general duty) passed out of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Recruitment Training Centre at Illupaikudi in the neighbouring Sivaganga district on Wednesday.

The recruits underwent a 44-week training programme that included physical training, weapon handling, drill map reading, counter insurgency and internal security. After the general salute, the recruits took an oath to devote themselves to the service of protecting the nation.

Inspector General of Police (South Zone) Abhay Kumar Singh took the salute and reviewed the parade. He distributed prizes to the best candidates in different training streams. Cadet Lalit Kishore was awarded the overall ‘Best Trainee’ trophy. Prizes were awarded for those who came first in firing, endurance and weapon handling. The event was attended by students from some schools.

The recruits have been given their fields of postings.
