Over 1,300 candidates out of the total 9,963 candidates who had applied for recruitment of Sub-Inspectors of Police absented themselves for the written examination conducted in the district on Saturday.

Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board (TNUSRB) conducted the examination for both for male and female candidates at 10 centres in the district.

The examination comprised 140 questions, each carrying one mark. The examination to test the competency of the candidates in various subjects and languages lasted for two-and-a-half hours.

The TNUSRB will conduct the written test for police department candidates on Sunday. Over 1,500 police constables, who had put in five years of services in the department, would take up the test.

Twenty per cent of the total posts would be reserved for departmental candidates.

Successful candidates of the examination would be called for physical tests.

Commissioner of Police Shailesh Kumar Yadav and Superintendent of Police Vijayendra Bidari inspected the examination centres on Saturday.
