Woman’s suicide: suspect seeks anticipatory bail

February 01, 2014 12:08 pm | Updated May 18, 2016 05:15 am IST - Kochi:

The man who allegedly posted obscene comments on Facebook about Vijitha, who committed suicide recently, filed for anticipatory bail before the Ernakulam District Additional Sessions Court here on Friday.

Vijitha’s family members had alleged that she had committed suicide under pressure after Retheesh, 27, of Alappuzha, posted abusive comments against her on Facebook.

Retheesh denied the allegation in his anticipatory bail plea and said he had not posted any comments about the woman.

He said Vijitha’s parents were neighbours of his in-laws, who live at Vandanam in Alappuzha. The two families are allegedly involved in a property dispute. According to the anticipatory bail plea, Vijitha’s parents had been “coercing and intimidating” Retheesh’s in-laws to reach a settlement in the property dispute and the family’s allegations that Retheesh’s comments had prompted the woman to commit suicide were fabricated.
