A woman admitted to a private hospital in Perumpadappu near here for delivery died reportedly following post-delivery bleeding on Thursday.
The victim has been identified as Anna Jojy, 29. She delivered a baby boy at 4.30 p.m. The hospital authorities, however, informed the relatives of the bleeding only around 10 p.m. and recommended to shift her to a city hospital.
While being shifted, the patient turned motionless following which the relatives accompanying her raised an alarm and reportedly turned their ire on the driver of the ambulance. The driver and the hospital staff fled the scene fearing a backlash from the relatives. By this time a crowd had gathered on noticing a speeding ambulance suddenly coming to a halt.
The police had to intervene as the crowd began to turn unruly. As the driver had fled with the ambulance key, the police had to arrange a spare key from the hospital before taking the patient to a city hospital, where the patient was declared brought dead. The body is being kept at the mortuary. A post-mortem will be conducted on Friday to find the cause of death.
