In continuation of reports of behavioural aberrations in the society, a 40-year-old woman was arrested in North Paravur on charges of sexually abusing an 11-year-old boy.
Shahida, of Vedimara and presently staying at Paravur, was accused of sexually abusing the boy, who used to run errands for her. The incident, which occurred on December 11, came to light after the boy shared his experience with his friends at school. However, the issue was settled when it came up at the Parent Teacher Association’s meeting. But the police took the woman into custody on Friday evening after posters about the incident appeared in and around Paravur. The North Paravur police collected a statement from the boy and registered a case.
Woman held for fraud
Thrikkakara police arrested a woman on charges of cheating nearly 25 people after promising job visas to Singapore, Malaysia and Canada.
Police said that Jaya Thomas, 48, of Komalapuram, Alappuzha, was operating for the last three years from a rented flat at Marottichodu in Kakkanad and is believed to have duped people of Rs. 50 lakh. She later moved to another apartment at Edappally, from where the police arrested her. The accused was produced before Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
Man found dead
A day after the body of a murder accused was found hanging inside a railway compartment, another body was found in the city on Friday. The body of Ramanan, 43, of Puthenkandathil House, Karthikappally, Alappuzha, was found slumped inside an autorickshaw parked along SRM Road. A bottle of poison was also retrieved from near the body.
