The Health wing of the Kochi Corporation will start inspecting tanker lorries supplying drinking water in the city from Tuesday.
The lorries will be inspected for compliance of guidelines issued by the Kochi Corporation. The Corporation had earlier asked the tanker lorry owners to present their vehicles for inspection and registration with it following complaints of distribution of polluted water.
Of the 260 vehicles that had applied for registration, 217 had qualified for the supply of drinking water. The vehicles which failed to qualify were also asked to rectify the complaints before Monday.
As the deadline ended on Monday, inspection of vehicles will start on Tuesday, said Dr. C. Santha, Health Officer of the Kochi corporation.
The lorry owners have been asked to collect drinking water only from the sources identified by the medical authorities. The lorry owners were also asked to keep the water sample analysis reports in the vehicles. The Health officials of the Corporation will inspect the certificates and water provided by the tanker lorries in the coming days. Such analysis will be held in the presence of the officials of the District Health authorities, Dr. Santha said.
