Wait for boat race winner continues

September 20, 2011 07:13 pm | Updated 07:13 pm IST - KOTTAYAM:

The declaration of the results in the ‘chundan' (snake-boat) category of the 112th GAIL Kottayam Boat Race held at Thazhathangady has been postponed again.

The final contest that had taken place on Sunday between the Village Boat Club, Kumarakom, on the ‘Illikkalam' chundan, and the Town Boat Club, Kumarakom, on the ‘Jawahar Thayankari' chundan had culminated in a thrilling photo-finish. With the jury unable to decide on the winner even after examining the recorded visuals multiple times, the declaration of result was postponed to Tuesday. It was decided that the results would be announced in the presence of the District Collector, Kottayam municipal chairman, members of the jury and the captains of the two teams.

However, the scrutiny had to be postponed as it coincided with some official engagements of the District Collector. The process will be held on Wednesday at the collectorate chamber.

The trophies for the winners of the other categories were given away on the race day.
