Minister for Forests and Transport Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has said that V.S. Achuthanandan’s volte face on the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case was tantamount to the last witness in the case turning hostile.
Talking at a meet the press organised by Ernakulam Press Club here on Tuesday, Mr. Radhakrishnan said there would be an exodus from CPI(M) after Mr. Achuthanandan backpedalled on several critical issues, including T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case.
“VS was the refuge for all those who didn’t agree with the anti-people positions of the party. With that gone they will have to move into another camp. This will benefit the UDF in the election,” he said.
Mr. Achuthanandan was accepted by the people for treading a path different from that of the party. With the about turn, he had become no different from other party leaders. Mr. Achuthanandan had dug a hole for his own credibility, he said.
Describing Mr. Achuthanandan’s ‘U-turn’ in the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case citing the findings of the party inquiry as being just an eyewash, Mr. Radhakrishnan said there was no legal basis for that inquiry, which was actually an insult to the country’s legal system. Will VS now withdraw his letter seeking CBI inquiry into the wider conspiracy behind the murder, he challenged.
He declined to comment on T.P. Chandrasekharan’s wife K.K. Rema’s complaint about the alleged role of the LDF candidate A.N. Shamseer in the conspiracy citing the sub-judice nature of the case and a probable CBI inquiry into the wider conspiracy behind the murder. He, however, said all those who are guilty would be punished.
Mr. Radhakrishnan clarified that the proposed CBI inquiry would not just be limited to the murder but would cover the murder attempt against T.P. Chandrasekharan during the LDF rule in 2009.
He said that UDF was in a convenient position in all 20 constituencies in the State. LDF was defenseless with no political issues. That’s why their campaign has turned personal and denigrated to a level of making derogatory statements against political opponents, Mr. Radhakrishnan said.
