Vasantholsavam gets off to a start in Kochi

Event comprises flower show, agro festival, ethnic food fete

The time of the year has come for Kochi to revel in the spirit of Christmas - New Year season with curtains up on Vasantholsavam, a nine day long programme organised by the District Tourism Promotion Council and the District Administration.

Inaugurating the event here on Tuesday, Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash said the state government was committed to complete the metro rail project in time and urged cooperation from all sides towards ensuring the development of Kochi. Hybi Eden MLA inaugurated the flower show while film director Siddique opened the food festival by Café Kudumbasree.

District Collector MG Rajamanickam, DTPC secretary and assistant collector S.Suhas were also present.

The event, comprising flower show, agro festival and aqua show, in addition to an ethnic food festival proved to be a big draw in the first day itself with hundreds of people flocking the venue. One of the major attractions in the flower show is the miniature of a metro train made of flowers.

The food festival, in a total of 14 stalls, brings together specialty dishes from districts across the State. The cuisines to be spread out on the platter include several traditional cuisines include different preparations of fish, varieties of pickles, steamed rice and other food items.

Apart from the food festival, Kudumbasree is also putting up stalls packed with handicrafts, bamboo and cane furniture, select products of its units, and vegetables for exhibition and sale.
