Leaders of the United Democratic Front, led by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, came out with a clarion call on Saturday to various front constituents to work as one to ensure victory for the United Progressive Alliance in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

Mr. Chandy predicted victory for the Congress-led UPA in the coming elections as he accused the CPI(M)-led Left alliance of turning away from the problems facing the people.

The Chief Minister was inaugurating the Ernakulam district convention of the UDF here at the Rajendra Maidan.

He said that the Left parties were trying only to malign the UDF government while turning their backs to the problems facing the people of the State. He listed a number of campaigns the Left had launched but had also withdrawn in the face of poor response from the people. He accused the CPI(M) of blind opposition to the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party of trying to divide the people of the country.

Home Minister Chennithala predicted the rout for the Left parties in the coming Lok Sabha elections. He also appealed to the UDF constituents to work as one to ensure victory in the coming elections.

Union Minister for Consumer Affairs K.V. Thomas and president of Socialist Janata (Democartic) party M. P Veerendra Kumar were among those who addressed the large gathering.

M.O. John, district chairman of UDF and M. M. Francis, UDF district convenor, were among those present.
