The district coordination committee of trade unions united against the sale of equity shares of the Cochin Shipyard will observe Wednesday as black day in the district in protest against the disinvestment move.

The public issue of 3, 39, 84,000 equity shares of the yard opens for three days from August 1 to 3.

In a statement, convener of the district committee of joint trade unions C.K. Manisankar said various trade unions would also take out marches to the yard on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in solidarity with the yard’s unions that had been protesting the IPO plan. “Thousands of workers will assemble in front of the yard from 4 p.m. to decry the ill-advised plan to sell the shares of the profit-making yard,” he said.
