United Forum of Bank Unions has urged the Union government to exclude bank employees in Kerala from the Finance Ministry’s instruction on keeping banks open on September 15 to receive tax as per the tax receiving schedule.

The employees are entitled to avail themselves of the holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act, a statement issued by the organisation said.

“It will be difficult for Malayalees to work on Sunday which turns out to be Uthradom, the day before Thiruvonam, the grand festival of Keralites,” said the statement.
