Three youths held

In two separate cases on Friday, excise officials arrested three migrant workers and a Keralite on charge of possessing 3.7 kg of ganja and 25,000 packets of chewing tobacco. In the first case, Tileshwar Lima, 25, and Suman Bibar, 21, both natives of Odisha, and Albi, 21, from Kothamangalam, were arrested for allegedly possessing ganja. In an unrelated case, Assam-native Aseez Haq, 35, was picked up by excise sleuths from Nellikkuzhy for allegedly possessing the tobacco packets that weighed about 150 kg and was worth Rs. 11 lakh.

Escapes from custody

Abdul Lateef, 39, an accused in a cheating case, gave the police the slip while he was being escorted by two police personnel from the district jail at Kakkanad to a court in Thrissur. A probe has been ordered into the incident.
