Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Limited (FACT) has done well even under adverse financial circumstances. The public sector fertiliser company came out of the red after several years during the quarter ended in September 2017.

It registered a profit of ₹5.85 crore in the July-September 2017 period. The total sales turnover of the company for the quarter went up to ₹607.43 crore as against ₹296.47 crore during the previous quarter (April-June 2017).

The Udyogamandal complex of the company had seen substantial increase in the production of ammonium sulphate and sulphuric acid. Production of factamfos and ammonium sulphate surpassed the company’s targets. The production target for factamfos during July-September was 1.98 lakh tonnes but the actual production touched 2.08 lakh tonnes. Ammonium sulphate’s production had also been increased. The total production was 58,500 tonnes against the target of 44,500 tonnes.

The sales turnover beat predictions of a possible deceleration in business due to the late setting of the monsoon in the areas where FACT fertilisers have strong business. Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, along with Tamil Nadu have been strong areas for FACT products, especially the fertiliser mixture Factamfos.

A record was also set in October in terms of sales. Fertiliser sales in Tamil Nadu touched a peak in October 2017, a record in 15 years.

The sales touched 40,332 tonnes of fertilisers in Tamil Nadu during October as against 27,469 tonnes during the same period in the previous year.
