The State government has taken a serious note of the reports about a group of Muslims, including women from Kasaragod and Palakkad districts, joining the Islamic State (IS) and will investigate the issue with due seriousness, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said.

Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of a function in Kochi on Saturday, Mr. Vijayan said the reports in this regard were needed to be investigated further.

Meanwhile, State Police Chief Loknath Behera said no confirmation with regard to these missing persons joining the Islamic State were available thus far.

“We have only information that these families went outside the country and are yet to return home. We need to verify if they have gone elsewhere from there and whether similar incidents had been reported before,’’ Mr. Behera said urging the media not to sensationalise the issue. A detailed investigation was on and more details could be known only after this, the DGP said.
